MISSION STATEMENT

King’s Lynn STARS Study Centre aims to assist local schools in raising achievement and future aspirations by motivating young people to become successful independent learners.  Although Literacy, Numeracy and ICT all play key roles within our programme, the Study Centre’s focus is to develop a young person’s confidence and self esteem through using an inventive fun curriculum of highly achievable lessons and activities

The Centre, jointly funded by Norfolk County Council Children’s Services and the Department for Education, is located just two miles from Norfolk Arena in Providence Street in the centre of King's Lynn.

Although Literacy, Numeracy and ICT play key roles within the learning programmes, the Centre’s focus is to develop a young person’s confidence and self esteem through using an inventive fun curriculum of achievable lessons and activities.

The Centre opened in April 2006 as part of the highly successful government initiative ‘Playing for Success’.  It has now completed its fifth year and over 1,500 pupils have been through its doors, with additional usage by adults and other community groups increasing all the time.

The core time is used for pupils in years 5 to 9 from local schools, and the Centre also offers a range of activities and projects such as STARS Animation, STARS Radio, “Moving on Moving up” (a primary to secondary school transition package), design technology projects and art based sessions.  In addition, the Centre has worked on a nurture group scheme with younger pupils (from years 1 and 2).

Summer and Easter school holiday projects are jam packed weeks of fun, and full of educational activities and tasks.

The Centre has also worked with the students with special educational needs from the College of West Anglia, in partnership with Norfolk Museum Service, on a local speedway heritage project funded by a National Lottery Heritage Grant.

Adult Computer and Literacy weekly sessions, as well as Norfolk Adult Education courses, also take place within the Centre.
